If Kerala is famous as ‘God’s own Country’ then Alappuzha backwater is referred as ‘Venice of the East’. Around 150km car travel to Alappuzha from Trivandrum was blessed with shower on the way. A perfect cloudy day has the warmth welcome for the weekend. We reached the starting point and boarded for a delightful experience on the houseboat cruise at 11:00 am. The cruise takes us through the clear waters of the prominent Punnamada Lake – the venue of the legendary Nehru Trophy Snake Boat Race. It was one of the most exotic backwater cruises. Sailing through these backwaters tantalizes us with its breathtaking serenity to remain as the most beautiful reminiscences of our life. The serene waterways are fringed by palm grove and paddy fields and offer a striking spectacle of the rustic life. The toddy tappers were at work, and having toddy is worth following a custom. It’s one of the traditional, social and local drink extracted from coconut tree. Some wise people call it an Indian wine. Trust me ‘It’s not’ not to trust them.
Of late around 05:00pm the exotic backwater cruises comes to an end with leisure time spent to stay for long.
